Roofing 101

For standard asphalt shingle roof replacements, there are several products on the market to choose from. They range in warranties from 20yrs to 50yrs and even a limited lifetime shingle. As the warranty increases so does the shingles thickness, weight, and appearance. Most of the shingles these days are a fiberglass/asphalt combination shingle, hence the term ‘composition’ shingle. Also most of them are ‘3-dimensional’ shingles meaning they have a textured look, more like a wood shingled roof has. In some residential re-roofing projects a complete removal of the old roof is necessary with a plywood installation before the new shingles can be installed.

In some cases after the removal of the old roof, plywood isn’t necessary, we only need to check the condition of the existing wood for termite and or dry-rot damage, replace as needed and then install the new roof. In other cases the old roof can be left on with the new shingle installed right over the top. In either case we will fully check with your city’s building and code enforcement department for their approved applications first. As we are at your home estimating your roofing project we’ll show you all of your roofing choices and help you choose a roofing product that will best suit your needs and your budget.

We fully explain every aspect of your roofing project up front so you will know what to expect, when to expect it, i.e. time of arrival of crews, schedule of material delivery, completion, etc. We take pride in all of our roofing jobs going as smoothly as possible, from start to finish!
